05 Oct 09 "Side By Side Assemblies" Bring DLL Hell 2.0

neutrino38 writes "This is an alert for all developers using Microsoft Visual Studio 2005. At the beginning of January, Microsoft issued a security fix for Visual Studio 2005 forcing the use of new dynamic libraries (DLLs) by all applications compiled with this IDE. Basically, applications compiled with Visual Studio 2005 will not work anymore on an ordinary (non-dev) PC unless the newer DLLs are installed. And we found out that this is true on fully updated PCs. I just posted some details and some suggested fixes." Read below for some more background on Microsoft's so-called "side by side assemblies."

20 Dec 09 Carriers, Manufacturers Are Strangling Android

loconet writes "This article in Gizmodo claims that Android's fragmented model is harming it, but Google has the power to save it. The rumored Google Phone could be a ploy to upset the wireless industry, or it could be an expensive niche device. Either way, it would be a bid to take Android back from the companies that seem hell-bent on destroying it. '...once handset manufacturers (and carriers, through handset manufacturers) have built their own version of Android, they've effectively taken it out of the development stream. Updating it is their responsibility, which they have to choose to uphold. Or not! Who cares? The phones are already sold."

22 Jun 10 Pole Dancing Robots Ruin Both Robots and Strippers Simultaneously [Robots]

Pole dancing robots. Yes, they exist, and yes, I have video of them. No, they are not sexy. They are the polar opposite of sexy.

The robots are part of the MuTate London exhibition. Beyond that, I have no idea what in the hell is the deal with these things. I mean, I know that people have a lot of insane, indefensible fetishes, but robot strippers with CCTV cameras and bullhorns for heads? Total bonerkillers. No thank you. [BBC]
