24 Jan 10 Motorola asks ITC to ban BlackBerry imports

Patent litigation between Motorola and Research In Motion is heating up, with Motorola filing a complaint with the U.S. International Trade Commission.

In the complaint, filed Friday, Motorola alleges that RIM engages in unfair trade practices by importing and selling products that infringe five Motorola patents. The patents cover technologies related to Wi-Fi access, application management, user interface and power management, Motorola said.

26 May 10 Google sued over Wi-Fi sniffing

Galaxy Internet Services, an ISP for homes and businesses in Massachusetts, has filed a class-action lawsuit against Google over the search company's admitted blunder that it sniffed and stored data from Wi-Fi networks.

Through its legal representative, Carp Law Offices, Galaxy said on Tuesday that Google violated U.S. federal and Massachusetts privacy laws when it captured residential and business Web activity data.

14 Oct 10 Broadcom to buy 4G chipmaker Beceem

Broadcom has agreed to acquire Beceem Communications, a maker of chips for 4G LTE and WiMax devices, for $316 million in cash.

The acquisition is a logical one for Broadcom, a major vendor of chips for many wired and wireless technologies, including Wi-Fi, GPS and 3G mobile data. Broadcom said adding Beceem's engineering team and technology will help it get 4G chips to market sooner.
