According to Engadget HD, Vimeo is now hosting over one million videos, and 10% of those are high-definition. A quote in the article refers to Vimeo as "the largest repository of high-definition video anywhere in the world."

I love that I'm able to upload my HD content to the site, and though it lacks some of the features I dig about competitor site Viddler, the HD feature trumps them all.

30 Nov 09 Chrome OS Presents and Futures

Many readers are submitting stories related to Google Chrome OS. ruphus13 points out a GigaOm opinion piece about how, if users end up rejecting its current cloud-only focus, the nacent OS may succeed as a netbook secondary operating system alongside Windows (in company with secondaries based on other Linux flavors, including Android). Engadget reviews a Chrome OS on a USB key setup that is claimed to offer eye-opening performance compared to running under virtualization. And an anonymous reader notes the 0.1 beta release of ChromeShell, which installs a "Chrome OS-like" environment that boots to the Chrome browser in ~3 seconds; users can switch to Windows later as desired.

25 Feb 10 Canon Rebel T2i / 550D demonstrates 1080p video mode, collects glowing early preview

We seriously need to open up an Austrian branch of Engadget. After treating us to a titanium iPhone, the Governator's homeland is now playing host to the first professionally shot 1080p video with the new T2i / 550D from Canon. Nino Leitner has shot a moody short film with a pre-production unit and his conclusion has been that the video you can obtain from the latest prosumer shooter is indistinguishable from the output of the mighty Canon 7D. High praise indeed, but not altogether unexpected considering the T2i sports an all-new 18 megapixel sensor (that is "very similar" to the 7D's) and has had its 1080p recording upgraded to the requisite 30fps to make it a viable shooting mode. 25 May 10 Comcast's Tunerfish adds social media check-ins to your TV watching

Comcast's Plaxo acquisition has borne fruit beyond its social media address book roots with Tunerfish, aimed at pulling social networking features and TV into one website. Currently in closed alpha, it lets TV watchers note what they're watching and share with others, Foursquare style. No word on what being "mayor" of Chuck gets you (if it's not a discount at Subway we'll be disappointed) but the idea is to be able to keep an eye on what's trending amongst the larger pool of viewers or just your friends (who, presumably, have similar tastes. Of course there's Facebook and Twitter integration, and an iPhone app will be available when the beta launches in the next few weeks. Notably absent at this time is any Comcast branding, so it should be wide open no matter where you get your TV broadcasts from, but given the company's interests in bringing together internet and TV we wouldn't be surprised to see some Xfinity labeling work its way in sooner or later.
